Luis Gustavo Duarte Marenco
Industrial Engineering Scholarship annual cost: $2120 |
Luis was born on June 16, 2002; he is 19 years old. He lives in the neighborhood of Las Pampas, near the center of San Juan del Sur. Luis lives with his mother and two brothers.
He finished his secondary studies at the Instituto Nacional Enmanuel Mongalo y Rubio in 2019 obtaining an academic average of 81%. His favorite classes are math, physics, and biology. In his sophomore and junior years of high school, Luis participated in the local volleyball league which resulted in his grades being below our standards. But in his senior year he brought the focus and discipline he had learned in volleyball to his studies, and his grade point average was 93%. In addition, in his senior year Luis participated in the mathematics program presented by Fundación Uno in Managua. This program is for the young people of Nicaragua who are excellent in math; they go to Managua every Saturday during the school year to take advanced classes. Luis wants to study Industrial Engineering at UNI in Managua, because it is a very broad career with many opportunities.
In 2021, Luis took an admission exam at the National Engineering University (UNI) which he passed. He enrolled to study industrial engineering and took the month-long preparatory course that UNI requires of all incoming students, but unfortunately could not continue due to financial difficulties.
Luis decided to take a free English course offered by INATEC in San Juan del Sur. He currently only has the support of his mother, however, Luis asked his father if he could help him with his welding work and thus receive an income. His father agreed to support him in that way. His plans for 2022 are to continue with English or start studying a technical course that is something similar to a career in industrial engineering.
Luis is a young man characterized by respect, solidarity, and love. He would like to do sports programs in rural communities; he did a volleyball fair in Ostional when he was in high school. In his spare time, Luis plays soccer and volleyball. Luis is concerned about the drug use and theft problem in his community.
Without a scholarship, Luis cannot fulfill his dream of being an Engineer, because his mother does not have the resources to help him. Luis is motivated to do what he has to do to achieve his goals.
