Success Stories

A small selection of our employed graduates.
In 2014 The Sunrise Rotary Club of O'Fallon in the US, one of our primary supporters, requested we undertake a survey of students who received scholarships from Fundación A Jean Brugger from 2005 to 2014 and graduated from University. This survey found:

Percentage of graduated students who are employed:
89.70% of the former graduates have a job; only 10.30% do not work.

Location of graduates' employment:
86.40% of graduates work in the municipality of San Juan Del Sur, which contributes to the development of the municipality. 4.55% work on the island of Ometepe and Peñas Blancas, (Rivas department), while only 4.55% work outside Rivas department. This is a fulfillment of one of the goals of FAJB, which is to utilize education as a way to improve daily life in the San Juan del Sur area.

Percentage working in their field of study:
84.60% are working using their training and only 15.4% work in other areas.

Graduation year: 2011
After finishing University, Angel did an internship at the Mayor’s Office in San Juan, then worked on a Paving Project as Treasurer. He currently works in the administration of PALI, San Juan del Sur.
Sponsors: Alan Harvey and Carol Martin.

"What I enjoyed the most during my years in FAJB were the activities with the Ancianos. At the beginning I had no time because I was studying every day, but once my studies gave me space, I began to participate in these activities on an ongoing basis.

“Within the Fundación I learned that you must help people without any kind of interest. I can also say that they taught me basic values such as responsibility, managing time and resources,  because whenever you get your disbursement you must be organized with the expenses. Also, I learned to be committed with the studies.”

SAMUEL MUNGUÍA
FAJB helped Samuel to finish his studies in Business Administration at UPOLI-Rivas, where he stood out for being the graduation’s valedictorian.
Graduation year: 2011
Samuel teaches mathematics at Colegio Stella Maris. This year he will return to teaching at Instituto Gaspar García Laviana, where he will contribute to secondary education in rural schools.
Sponsors: Dan and Carol Petke

"The communication between the Fundación staff and the students left an impression on me; we all support each other.  The activities developed by FAJB students are an important part and so we feel that we contribute to our society. There is a great feedback between the students, the community and the staff; this is because of the involvement the Fundación has in all social areas of San Juan del Sur. Also when we are outstanding in our majors, the Fundación recognizes the effort that you make, rewarding the best students and the most dedicated.

“If there are values that I acknowledge the Fundación gave me, it is the companionship that always exists between students, communication, integrity and sharing everyday with your FAJB mates."

"What I enjoyed the most during my time with the Fundación were the activities with the Ancianos. It's fun to meet elders who  are often forgotten but when you give them a little attention they give you advice and talk to you... you learn a lot.

“Being part of FAJB awoke in me the spirit of kindness toward others, and sensitivity for the needs of others."
