Josselin Danessa Romero Ruiz
Joselin is 19 years old, has three siblings, and lives in the Barrio Zacaria Israel Mora, an urban zone of San Juan del Sur. She lives in the home with her mother, father, and three siblings. Her mom is a housewife and is dedicated to the administration of a small business (pulpería) and her father works as a security guard at a hotel in San Juan del Sur. They are a family striving to move forward in life.
Joselin finished high school in 2014. Her grade point average in her last two years was 91%. She was a hardworking and academically prominent student; her favorite subjects were biology, chemistry, and English. Joselin has been passionate about careers related to the medical sciences since childhood, and became convinced that she would study some kind of medical career when she volunteered in different health campaigns with public institutions and private organizations.
She is currently in her second year studying Dentistry at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) in the department of León.
We have verified and can attest that Joselin is a dynamic young woman, proactive and constant in her convictions and goals with personal qualities of service, initiative, and humanism, and is an academically outstanding student.
She has participated voluntarily in many social activities in the community with the Fundación A. Jean Brugger.

Samuel Moisés Lopez Merlo
Samuel Lopez was born on October 1, 1999. He is 17 years old and lives in Barrio Carlos Holmann – an urban neighborhood of San Juan Del Sur. He is the third of 4 siblings and lives at home with 5 people: his mother, his father and his siblings. His is a humble family of limited resources: his mother is a High School teacher and their only income is his mother’s salary. His father is a mason and is not an active worker.
Samuel depends on his parents for economic support for his studies and his personal expenses. During the week he helps his mother with household needs. He is a humble young boy with a good level of maturity, and is an active server in his church with a high spirit of self-improvement and social awareness. He loves being a children’s teacher at his church for the 3, 4 and 5 year olds.
Currently Samuel is in the first year of Tourism Administration at the Polytechnic University of Nicaragua (UPOLI) in the city of Rivas. He studies in the regular mode (daily) and has achieved an academic average of 80%. He needs four more years to complete college (2017-2020). The classes that Samuel liked the most during high school and college were: Language and Literature, History and Geography.

José Alejandro Flores Tercero
José Alejandro was born on December 21, 1998. He is 17 years old and lives in the rural community of Tortuga approximately 25 km from the center of the municipality of San Juan del Sur. He is the eldest of 6 siblings. Eight people live in his home: his mother, his stepfather, José and his 5 younger siblings. It is a humble family with scarce economic resources. His mother is a housewife; the family’s income depends on the sale of donuts and other baked goods by his stepfather.
José Alejandro depends on his parents for economic support for his studies and his personal expenses. During the week he helps his mother sell the baked goods in the community and he dedicates his Saturdays to studying.
José Alejandro graduated from high school in 2015 at the Margaret Morganroth Gullette Distance Institute in the city of San Juan del Sur. He had an academic average of 86%, his success was due to the discipline he brought to his schoolwork. He devoted 2 hours to his studies daily. His favorite classes were: English, Mathematics and Physics.
For economics reasons, José Alejandro was not able to begin university last year. He wants to study system engineering at the Polytechnic University of Nicaragua (UPOLI) in the city of Rivas. He has had a lot of enthusiasm for this career ever since he was a child when he watched his uncle work on computers. He has also taken a computer course.
Currently Jose Alejandro works in a hotel near his home in the maintenance department to contribute to the economic support of his home and personal expenses, however the salary is not enough to pay for the costs of university studies.
José Alejandro would like to contribute to his community by mentoring and encouraging young people to study a career for personal and community development. In his community he has participated in campaign of cleaning of the beaches.

Lismadiela Baez Yubank
Lismadiela was born on April 30, 1999; she is 17 years old and lives in Barrio Sacarías Israel Mora, an urban area of the municipality of San Juan Del Sur. She is the oldest child and lives at home with her mother and her 9 year old brother. The family is led solely by her mother who works to maintain the home since the father left. Her mother is a high school teacher and the family depends entirely upon her salary.
Lismadiela finished her secondary school studies in the Enmanuel Mongalo Institute in SJdS last year. She finished with a high academic average of 88%. Her favorite classes in secondary school were: Language and Literature, Social Science and Biology. She is very enthusiastic about studying Medicine because she would like to help others. She wants to study Medicine at the Autonomy University of Nicaragua (UNAN) in Managua.
She has participated in regional and national chess games in Nicaragua and has been one of the best players. She has also participated in voluntary and social activities in her community, like clean up campaigns. Lismadiela wants to be a great professional with an excellent academic average, practicing medicine and serving and working with the people of San Juan del Sur.
