Kristel Castillo has dreamt of being a pediatrician for many years. In early 2020 she took the very competitive entrance exam to the national medical school, UNAN in Managua and qualified for entry into the program.
Kristel graduated from the local public high school in 2019 with an academic average of 97%. Her favorite classes were: biology, language and literature, and philosophy. She is now finishing her first year of studies at UNAN.
She was born on February 10, 2003, and lives in the Camilo Ortega neighborhood of San Juan del Sur. Her father abandoned her family when Kristel was a child. Her mother has been her only life support; she works as a cook in Hotel Posada Azul. Kristel is the youngest of four siblings.
Kristel wants to serve her community and help children. She also wants to to get ahead in life because that would honor her mother for all the sacrifices she has made for her.
