Kevin is currently in his second year of Medical Technology at the Autonomous Christian University of Nicaragua (UCAN), Masaya. He got interested in this as a career because his grandmother, with whom he lives, is diabetic. Kevin began giving her insulin shots, and before long was helping other elderly people in his community with injections and other support for chronic diseases. They tell him he is very gentle and they don’t even notice when he gives them a shot.
Kevin graduated from high school with an average of 89%. His preferred classes were: chemistry, physics, and mathematics. In his last year he participated in a Science Fair; the project was a bicycle-powered blender and they won first place at the District level and went to the national Fair in Managua. (Video) In 2008 he participated in a Fundación baseball camp, and has fond memories of the experience.
Kevin was born on September 28, 2000 and lives in San Juan del Sur. Kevin is the older of two brothers. They live with their mother, maternal grandmother, and an aunt. His mom works as a cook at a local bar and restaurant and Kevin works there one evening a week to help pay for his university studies.
Kevin is characterized by being a humble, sincere, honest, respectful and responsible young man who has shown a great determination to overcome problems. He is worried about the shortage of clean drinking water in his community.
In his spare time, he likes to visit and talk with his grandmother, play baseball, read, and go for walks on the beach. Kevin dreams of finishing his university studies, and helping his mother and contributing to his community.
