Women of the Las Marías community receive a talk on sexual and reproductive health

On December 1, 2018, the medical science students of Fundación A. Jean Brugger presented a seminar on reproductive health and sexuality in the rural community of Las Marías in the municipality of San Juan del Sur. 30 adolescent girls and adult women between the ages of 13 and 38 attended the talk. The program also included the distribution of Days for Girls kits, which are washable menstrual pads.
The program included talks about the menstrual cycle, the physiological changes from childhood to adolescence, and personal hygiene. Instructions were given about how to use the Days for Girls kit before each girl received her own personal kit.
The success of this project is thanks to the solidarity and alliance between Fundación A. Jean Brugger and Days for Girls Marion NC Team, North Carolina, a town near Asheville, NC in the U.S. The main objective of the Days for Girls project is to provide adolescent girls in poor countries access to feminine hygiene products. The Fundacion A. Jean Brugger is especially grateful to Paula Burgin, the Marion Team group leader, who worked with Kathleen Brugger to coordinate this effort.
This activity was directed by Alvaro Novoa, Director of Social Programs of the Fundacion A. Jean Brugger. We would like to thank Dr. Kim Priebe, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, who volunteered her time and her vehicle to transport the team to the Las Marías community. The scholarship students who participated are Kimberly Sumpul López, Idalia Jiménez, Ingrid Obando, and Lizmadiela Baez.
